Hey all! I’ve been crazily busy of late, and thus I now find myself with the nasty cold that’s been going around…

Don’t you just hate getting sick? I know I do. Especially when I get sick five days before the opening night of our musical. In which I am understudy for the lead female. Uh huh.

If you were wondering, the musical is called “The Warrior” and it was written by a woman in Newberg, OR, named Marilyn Olson. (She’s genius!) Basically, it’s the story of David, Uriah, and Bathsheba from the Bible. So yes, I am playing Bathsheba in a few performances

Anyway, if you live in the Portland or Salem area, you should definitely come see it!!! It runs this upcoming weekend, and next. Saturdays and Fridays are at 7:30, and Sundays are at 3. And it’s at the Alpenrose Opera House in Portland. Or, you could come to out one Salem performance on March 9th at 7 pm at the Elsinore in Salem. (The Elsinore showing is at 7 pm, not 7:30. Just to clarify.)

As for the title of this post? Veggie Tales, aka the best show on the planet (also, did you realise that King George and the Ducky is the story of David and Bathsheba? weird, huh?)

I’ve just been bogged down by finals, and I’ve been super busy with play practices when I’m not doing something school related.

Thank goodness it’s the last day of the semester! And all that I have left is my 3D Art Final.

Which, if you were wondering, is based off of the following drawing that I did last year.

Yep. Isn’t it beautiful? You  can kind of see how I orignially had the ears too big, and then erased them… that’s the annoying thing about scans. But yeah.

Okay, that was pessimistic. I will finish this, I will, I will!

In other news, I can now see how difficult it is for Birdi to always write in third person, since I typed in third person for 24 hours the other day. (Not a full, non-stop 24 hours. But every email/webmail I sent [except to teachers] was in third person.) So now I appreciate her efforts even more! Weirdly enough, I discovered that going back to first person after so long of third person was extremely challenging.

What else has been going on in my life? The current play I’m in. Other than that, nothing… but trust me, school and a musical at the same time are proving difficult right now. (I will post more on the musical later, don’t worry.)

Well, I guess I’m just posting to let you all know that I haven’t abandoned you all.

I didn’t even post anything that day. Strange, isn’t it? But seeing that number literally made my heart skip a beat.

I’m blogging to tell you all about something I’m super duper excited about:

The Dear Sister In Christ Project (DSICP)!

This is a project that a friend of mine thought up, and I volunteered to help with. So our project fell into place

Here’s a little bit about the project, taken from its website:

To put it simply, the main goal of the Dear Sister In Christ Project (DSICP) is to provide an opportunity for Christian women of all ages to encourage and support today’s tween and teen girls by sharing their faith through letters. … We wish to encourage our readers to look to God for help during hardships as well as the trying teenage years. DSICP letters are not advice letters, but rather testimonial letters. We do not wish to offer the solutions to specific issues, but point the way towards the one and only, ultimate solution—Jesus.

This reminds me a little bit of Project Inspired, an awesome Christian website for teen and tween girls (that you should check out!) started by a model, only instead of articles written by the staff, The DSIC Project uses letters written by the readers.

The DSICP also has a blog on which there will be monthly Faith Challenges, portions of scripture, and who knows what else we’ll wind up posting! The letters on the site are written by readers for the purpose of encouraging today’s teens and tweens and will cover anything from self-image to relationships to peer pressure to anything in between.

All you female readers, you should take some time to check it out! I am super excited about this project and have been since my friend and I started plotting

My family and I decided to end 2011 by sending my little sister away to a friend’s house since we’re all sick and not doing anything, and then watch Pirates of the Caribbean. Man, I forgot how good that movie is. It’s like… epic and ridiculous at the same time.

Random Fact: Did you know that Orlando Bloom, who plays Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean also plays Legolas in Lord of the Rings? How awesome is that? I mean, elf, pirate… cool! (I had never noticed this until one of my LOTR-crazed friends pointed it out to me.)

Anyway, thinking back on 2011, I have to say it was a pretty good year, but it had its rough spots. Quite a few.  There were some times that I thought I would never get through.

However, I also found my church home and a group of friends that I love. So now, I have two awesome friends groups

In addition, 2011 was my first ever mission trip. Whoa. That was the most incredible experience I have ever had. Seriously. I can’t even find the words to explain it. (If you want to know more on that, click here to see my mission trip reflections)

In 2011, August or September, I started up this blog. This will be my 21st post, and I have already gained 21 amazing followers. (NOT 300-something, like the widget says. For some reason, it decided to add all of my Facebook friends to that number.) 21 and 21, that’s funny. Hadn’t noticed that until now.

Anyway, this past year has been new and different in a lot of ways. I’ve learned so much… but most of all, that no matter what, God is in control. Through good times and bad.

And we know that in all things God works together for good to those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose. ~Romans 8:28

That’s Paperclip-Paraphrase version, by the way, meaning that I probably messed some of that up by combining different versions of the verse. But it means the same thing.

If I want to post this before 2012, I’d better post it now!

Isn’t it weird how Christmas has such a different feeling the older you get? When you’re younger, say up until middle school or so, Christmas pretty much runs your life during the Christmas season. (Whoa, I’m using the word Christmas a lot…) Last night, my little cousin was talking in her sleep (I kid you not!) about “a.. a box” and how she “didn’t want a Barbie.” I  can only assume she was dreaming about Christmas. Anyway. Point being, younger kids get so hyped up about holidays, where (at least from what I’ve experienced) for those of us that are pretty much middle school and up, the holiday is still fun, but more relaxed.

…Well, sometimes.

There’s also the side of it that is so much more stressful. We have soooo many people over. We try to do soooo many things. We have to cook soooo much food. We have to find presents for everyone on our lists–meaning that we probably will have to battle a huge crowd of other Christmas shoppers. Sometimes I start to think, with all the stress, we almost forget what this season is really about.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

So says Luke 2:11. That’s the point of Christmas. I have to refer now to John 3:16 (Don’t groan. This verse may be the verse that every little Christian kid knows by heart, but it holds so much truth.)

For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Christmas was the very beginning of our salvation. It is the day of Jesus’ birth. You know, when you think about Christmas, it is incredible. God loves us all so much that he sent his only son to Earth as a human baby. Later, He would give up His own life to give us salvation. Life eternal.

When the season’s getting you stressed out and frustrated, take a few moments to ponder God’s amazing love for us, and what He did for us. The miracle He sent to bring us to Him. And guys, spread the love. Show the “Reason for the Season” by the things that you do, the things that you say. Let people see God’s light through you.

I now have 15 followers! Yaaay! Surprisingly, I don’t know that many of you in person. So, I’m interested in knowing– out of my blog readers, do I get mostly girls or guys? I’m assuming girls, but you never really know.

WordPress only allows you to stalk your readers to a certain extent, and half the time it’s wrong (I mean, my mom is not from LA!). So, it’d be awesome if you’d answer the poll below and tell me if you’re a guy or a girl. If you really don’t feel like saying, there’s an option for that too

(I’m not really stalking you guys. It’s just that WordPress does give certain info, usually just where it thinks you’re from [almost always wrong] and your email–if you subscribe or leave a comment. Or your WordPress username, if you have a WordPress account. Anyway.)

The smell of homemade turkey soup is wafting tantalizingly through the house right now, and my normal music on my Pandora has been replaced with Christmas music. Christmas lights are up all over the town, and it is extremely cold. At least, for me. (Don’t laugh at me, Idahoans and Montanans and all you!) It seems like everywhere you go right now, that feel of winter and Christmas is in the air. It snowed in Mac today; aided by the factory, but still! I’m not the hugest fan of snow; I get tired of it pretty fast, but when it’s an inch or less it’s pretty and not bothersome

I really wish I had a camera on me at that time, but we were on our way home from the Salem drive for drivers ed, so there was no way I could have gotten pictures even if I did have a camera. Ah, well. Point being, it was pretty.

Also, it is now snowing on my blog! Cool, right? I had no idea that WordPress had that as a setting–of course, it’s only available until January something. But that’s okay. Because after January, I’ll be tired of snow anyway. But, I had fun messing with the settings on my blog, so it’s now officially wintry!

Anyway, I’m mainly posting just to let you all know that I am still alive; I just live in Narnia most of the time now. And in my little classroom. (By the Narnia comment, by the way, I mean that I’m in our local theater’s production of Narnia and it’s quite time-consuming).

I have to go, that soup is ready and I have Narnia tonight.

But I’m still alive, I still love you all, and I’m sorry for not posting in a while!

Why?

I WON NANOWRIMO!

In other words, I met my word count goal.

True, I changed my goal from 50k to 20k. But I wrote 20,o00 words in a month! 20,001 if you ask the NaNo website, 20,070 if you ask our version of Microsoft Word.

I am incredibly proud of myself. Not only did I survive, but I actually wrote 20,000 words that (hopefully) someday will be good enough for people to actually read!

As is, it needs editing. I realize this.

But that can’t stop my optimism for long.

In case you’re wondering, no, I didn’t finish my novel. Far from it. I barely started Part Two. But I did meet my goal. And that’s pretty awesome too!

This is definitely the most planning and work I have EVER put into a story. Or, like, anything else.

In any case, I can now tell people that I won NaNoWriMo.

This has been a crazy month. I can’t wait to rest a bit. And keep writing. And editing. Hmm.

Paperclip101

Just because we believe in God, and because we have been saved by Christ, doesn’t mean that life is going to be easy. In fact, it pretty much guarantees that we are going to go through trials. Whether it’s that math test, your grades, dating troubles, a death, or something else, we are going to have things pop up in life that are difficult for us.

At times, it may feel like life is weighing us down. Those trials and tribulations are too much to handle.

But that’s not true! Some verses I’ve taken comfort in recently are, as usual, Philippians 4:13:

“I can do all things through Him who gives me strength”

and Hebrews 13:5:

“…I will never leave you nor forsake you”

God is there for us, even in the toughest of times. Something that definitely relates to this is a poem called “Footprints in the Sand.” If you have never read it, do. Seriously. This poem is such an encouragement. And if you have read it, read it again!

Think about that for a little while. Even if it seems like no matter how much we pray, how much we ask God to help us through and He isn’t doing anything about it, He is! You may not be able to see God working in your life sometimes, but know that He is always there and in control.

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we cannot see” ~Hebrews 11:1

Even when it seems like God isn’t there, we have to have faith that He is. Looking back on rocky times in life, I realize now just how many little blessings God put into my life, even when I had sort of turned away from Him for a while. He was still there. He still cared. He carried me through.

When life gets you down, keep praying. Have faith. Our God is always in control. He will help you through whatever you are going through. Life happens. But God is always there for us.
